Hitchcock Insect Club is a grassroots club made up of local individuals who are passionate about bugs, and they want you to join in the fun!

The featured insect will be presented by Dr. Ted Burk.

The main program will be presented by Dr. Amanda Roe of College of St. Mary.  Her talk is titled  "Decomposer Insect Communities in the Nebraska Sandhills.”  It describes her research over a two year period at Valentine National Wildlife Refuge in Cherry County, NE. Her study concentrated on necrophagous insect populations (burying beetles, carrion beetles, blow flies, ants, wasps) and their crucial role in carcass breakdown and nutrient recycling.  Her study helps to understand the ecological relationships within this community and the roles decomposer insects play in prairie ecosystems.

The presentation will start at 6:30 p.m. but you are welcome to join a group walkabout beforehand at 5:30 p.m.

Participation is free with a park membership or a $5 park entry fee.

Please meet at the Loess Hills Lodge.
