A 43-foot-tall Golden Spike, similar to those ceremonially used to complete the transcontinental railroad in 1869, has been commissioned by the Golden Spike Foundation to honor the tens of thousands of railroad workers who built the transcontinental railroad. The monument honors the legacy of those who history forgets and gives ‘faces to the faceless.’ The public art piece will be journeying from artist, Douwe Blumberg’s home in Kentucky to Utah. The Union Pacific Railroad Museum is proud to host the Golden Spike Monument as a ‘whistle stop’ on its journey. The Golden Spike will be on display from 10AM to 2PM on October 14th. There will be special activities for guests. This event is free and open to the public.
