Program Description: Egg Carton Bird Feeders
February is National Bird Feeding Month! To celebrate we’re making egg carton bird feeders.
The Historical Society of Pottawattamie County will be at the Council Bluffs Public Library on Monday, February 3 at 6:30 p.m. to present on the territorial and legal battles between Iowa and Nebraska for both Carter Lake and Lake Manawa. As the Missouri River changed course over the years, bodies of water were left behind as oxbow lakes. The most notable ones in the area were Carter Lake, formed in an 1877 flood, and Lake Manawa, formed from the 1881 flood. Both of these events altered the Missouri River channel and, consequently, altered the Iowa-Nebraska border. Carter Lake is one of the only spots where the Iowa-Nebraska border is not on the Missouri River and it led to a heated legal battle about which state Carter Lake belonged to. Lake Manawa became a recreational hotspot that had land claims by both Iowa and Nebraska. Come learn about this fascinating and unique part of Iowa and Nebraska history.
Presented by Troy Stolp.

The High Kings are one of the most in-demand traditional Irish bands touring today. They are Finbarr Clancy, Darren Holden, Brian Dunphy, and newest member Paul O’Brien. The High Kings formed in 2007 and have been gaining popularity worldwide ever since. The High Kings play 13 instruments between them, creating the unique sound and atmosphere that fans love to this day. After performing for President Obama in Moneygall in 2012, they received a personal invitation from the president to perform at the 2012 White House St. Patrick’s Day celebration. They flew directly from London, where they had already been the headline performer for the Lord Mayor of London’s St. Patrick’s Day concert. The High Kings continue to set the bar extremely high for Irish folk bands across the world and are widely regarded to be at the forefront of the genre. After a 17-year journey, The High Kings continue to perform in sold-out venues across the globe to their ever-growing army of loyal fans.
