Local law-enforcement agencies often did not exist, or if they did, they lacked the resources to handle the challenges—and railroads were left to handle them by themselves.
Modern railroad special agents are far more professional than the hired guns of a hundred years ago. Join us for our next Club Car Conversation, ‘Women on the Railroad’ with author Chris Enss on December 3rd at 5:30 pm cst!
Dating back to the 19th century, women have had roles in the railroad. Beyond nursing and services roles, women played a larger part in the creation of rail lines than they have been given credit for. Although the physical task of building the railroad had been achieved by men, Enss will discuss the significant and lasting contributions that women made to the historic operation.
Club Car Conversations are casual virtual chats about railroads, history, and pop culture. They are open and free to the public! Can’t make it? Just register to receive a recording to watch at your discretion!

Has someone you love been diagnosed with dementia? Learn tips and techniques to help your loved one, straight from an expert. As a caregiver, family member or friend of someone facing memory loss, you know how tough and isolating the experience can be, especially if you are their main caregiver. While no book or training can fully prepare you for the experience, together, we’ll learn strategies, offer advice and support each other in our journey. Participants are encouraged to bring their loved one with dementia. The CountryHouse staff will lead them in an activity during the support group or they can enjoy lunch with the residents.
