The Taco Ride takes place every Thursday evening on the Wabash Trace Nature Trail, from Council Bluffs, Iowa to Mineola, Iowa, and back. The scenic ride is about 20 miles through the Loess Hills and ends with dinner at Tobey Jack's Mineola Steakhouse. The weekly rides take place from when the trail is dry enough in the spring (usually in April or May) until late in the fall (usually until Halloween).
Most riders start at Iowa West Foundation Trailhead Park where parking is available. Slightly more than halfway between the trailhead and Tobey Jack's, many riders will stop at a picnic area, nicknamed Margaritaville, for a quick break and to join in a conversation with fellow bikers or to partake in refreshments they brought with them.
Note: The Taco Ride is a weekly event. It runs every Thursday evening during most of the year, weather permitting. Visit the Taco Ride website, linked below, for event news. For more information about the ride, visit our blog.

Each year, we celebrate the strength and resilience of four individuals who have faced a cancer diagnosis and invite them to share their remarkable stories. Alongside them, we are honored to be joined by local and national celebrities who add inspiration and joy to this special event. All proceeds benefit our Spirit of Courage Cancer Center Charitable Patient Care Fund, which offers aid to cancer patients who are uninsured or underinsured. This fund assists patients by covering expenses like medication, treatment, deductibles, and even everyday living costs such as rent, groceries, and gas. Without this vital support, many vulnerable members of our community would have to go without treatment or medication.

Since the 1860s, railroads like Union Pacific have played a pivotal role in the opening and then the settling, and disruption, of the American west. Today, Union Pacific continues to play a critical role in keeping the economy moving and our Nation prospering. It’s quite a story. While it is a slight exaggeration to say that the history of Union Pacific is the history of the West, it is no exaggeration to say that the two histories are inextricably linked. Explore the beginnings of this great endeavor through original photographs taken during the construction of the transcontinental railroad from the Union Pacific Historical Collection, the largest collection of such photographs in the world. Patricia LaBounty, curator at the Union Pacific Railroad Museum in Council Bluffs, Iowa will explain the context and construction of the nation’s first transcontinental railroad based on this rare and exciting collection and explore the railroad’s role in “Building America.”

She is a site to behold - wings at rest, one hand outstretched, a wistful look, and a peaceful gaze.
